Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of 2 treatments recommended by the World Health Organisation for the treatment of trauma related problems such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Its discovery in 1989 by Dr Francine Shapiro transformed the treatment  landscape for these types of problems. EMDR is now being used for a wider set of mental health conditions where memories have been stored with residual cognitive, emotional and somatic disturbance.

EMDR Training New Zealand is now offering EMDR Institute  trainings ( )  to mental health professionals. Its presenter, Dr Tom Flewett, is a psychiatrist who has recently completed his trainer training through the American based EMDR Institute. Trainings are being offered across New Zealand.
