EMDR Training New Zealand

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of 2 treatments recommended by the World Health Organisation for the treatment of trauma related problems such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Its discovery in 1989 by Dr Francine Shapiro transformed the treatment  landscape for these types of problems. EMDR is now being used for a wider set of mental health conditions where memories have been stored with residual cognitive, emotional and somatic disturbance.

EMDR Training New Zealand is now offering EMDR Institute  trainings ( )  to mental health professionals. Its presenter, Dr Tom Flewett, is a psychiatrist who has recently completed his trainer training through the American based EMDR Institute. Trainings are being offered across New Zealand.

Training sites:

  • Dr Flewett will be offering trainings in 2017 in Wellington, Dunedin and Auckland. Training Dates and Venues 
  • Dr Flewett would be open to approaches from other groups such as DHBs and ACC suppliers interested in having trainings provided in their region.

Training dates:

W/E 1 Friday -Sunday July 7-9 South Island. Dunedin. Venue to be confirmed

W/E 2 Mon -Wed September 18-20 Auckland. Venue to be confirmed

W/E 2 Mon - Wed November 6-8 Wellington: Training centre, Porirua Hospital Campus
