NZ College of Clinical Psychologists, Wellington Branch presents:

Shooting the Breeze

Home Grown Wisdom Shared By

An Introduction and Experiential Exploration of TRE - Tension Reduction Exercises and/or Trauma Release Exercise

David Berceli developed TRE as a means of relieving tension held in the physical body due to stress or trauma.  TRE produces involuntary neurogenic tremors, these are mild tremors that we have all likely experienced that allow the body to relax.  TRE is different from other exercises as it evokes tremors from deep within the muscles without any external mechanism.  For some engaging in TRE can also produce an emotional response and for others it is a simple bodily experience.  This is a experiential shooting the breeze, nothing strenuous but you will be using your body by going through a series of exercises to help fatigue the larger muscles in your legs and pelvic region to help produce the neurogenic tremors.  So it is recommended you wear comfy clothing (you can change when you get to the NZCCP office). You are welcome to bring a yoga mat or towel to lie on – as the final 30 minutes of the exercise is undertaken on the floor.  I have used TRE with several of my clients and have received positive feedback.  I was taught it by Dr Paris Williams at his recent Mindful/Somatic Approaches to Trauma Therapy where he introduced it as a resourcing practice.  The talk will be restricted to ten people so we all have enough space to engage in the exercise together.  So only those keen to give it a go should come along
