|Practice Name:||Helen Lenihan: Clinical Psychologist|
|Bio:||I am a Registered Clinical Psychologist and a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologist (MNZCCP). Since qualifying in 2005 have worked with individuals, families and groups in community mental health and Maori mental health and addiction services. I have been the Director of a not-for-profit organisation that focused on supporting well-being with youth with complex needs and high risk behaviours within the social sector. Currently I am in private practice in Auckland and offer psychological services to adults and young people (15 years +) at Picton Street Practice in Ponsonby
I anchor my clinical work in the values of compassion, kindness and trust. I support people to become aware of patterns, challenges and strengths as we navigate pathways to well-being. Difficulties are understood through research in the fields of trauma, neurobiology and attachment and formulated through a lens of culture, spirituality and sociopolitical factors.
Therapeutic techniques I utilise include Mindfulness based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion-Focused Therapy. I have completed 20 hours of training in Trauma Sensitive Yoga with the Trauma Center Yoga Programme.
I offer psychological assessments and brief and long term psychotherapy for individuals and couples and I am ACC registered under the ISSC scope. I provide clinical supervision to psychologists and other health professionals. Finally I provide coaching to leaders and managers, with a particular interest in those working in the not-for-profit field.
