NZCCP serves as a professional body for New Zealand Clinical Psychologists. We also represent the profession on important legislative, policy and professional matters locally and internationally.
Our mission is to set clear standards for the profession, ensuring that all clinical psychologists are suitably trained, supported, and developed. In 1989, a visionary group of clinical psychologists in Christchurch identified a critical need: their profession lacked a unified national body to provide support, advocacy, and continuous professional development. Thus, the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists (NZCCP) was established.
From its inception, NZCCP has aimed to raise the standards of clinical psychology across the country. By promoting ongoing education and implementing rigorous quality assurance and improvement processes, the College has ensured that clinical psychologists have the resources and representation needed to thrive.
This initiative addressed a significant gap in the field, offering clinical psychologists a strong, unified voice and the support necessary for continuous growth and excellence. Today, NZCCP remains committed to championing the interests of clinical psychologists, fostering a community dedicated to high standards and professional development.
All members of the College agree to practice in accordance with the Code of Ethics.
The College strongly supports the application of one code of ethics for the whole profession within New Zealand. Complaints against members are referred on to the Psychologists Board for investigation. However, all members give permission for the Psychologists Board to pass on information relating to its findings to the College, and the College takes a vital interest in ensuring that its members work professionally within the frame of reference of the Code. The Code of Ethics for Psychologists Working in Aotearoa/New Zealand, 2002, was developed by a Review Group comprising representatives of the NZ College of Clinical Psychologists, the NZ Psychological Society and the NZ Psychologists Board and formally adopted by all three organisations in 2002.
